Frequently asked questions about the ProjectionTools
What shapes and sizes of projection screen are supported when using ProjectionTools?
When using the domeprojection.com® ProjectionTools, there is no limit to the size or the shape of the projection surface. domeprojection.com® has long-time experience with the measurement of planar or cylindrical shapes as well as with sphere segments and domes. Even mixed forms are calibratable. For an optimal result, it is essential that the surface is smooth. The entire projection surface should also be captured by one or more cameras.
Which hardware can be used with ProjectionTools? What type of system can be calibrated?
domeprojection.com®´s ProjectionTools are flexible and suitable for diverse application possibilities. Several widely-used media servers and warping/blending solutions are directly supported through specialized exporters. In addition, open-standard data format exports are provided for easy integration into other software. Potential media servers are e.g. Ventuz, Watchout or 7th Sense Delta Server. Possible warp units could be Barco WB, HDX, Eyevis Openwarp, Calibre or 3D Perception nBox. Furthermore, you can use for example immersaview desktops. User-specific 3D engines can be also integrated.
We are pleased to integrate your specific or preferred hardware and software.
What cameras can be used for calibration?
You can use various cameras from different manufacturers and brands. We have good experiences with ids, avt or Canon, but these list is not exhaustive. Appropriate lenses are the regular ones or fisheye lenses. The fisheye lenses enable a broader focus up to 180°. For demanding projections and brilliant results, we recommend to use calibrated lenses.
How many projection channels can be calibrated in one system?
The number of projection channels are unlimited and individually aligned to the demands of your project. If your requirements are changing, extensions and consequently the involvement of additional projection channels are possible. Please note that the basis for additional projection channels is the purchase of additional licenses of domeprojection.com® ProjectionTools.
Can multiple cameras be used?
Yes, multiple cameras and/or camera positions can be used to cover large screens, overcome obstacles or scan unknown screen shapes.
Is it possible to calibrate sliced UHD projectors?
It is possible to calibrate sliced UHD projectors. Even when the projectors are fed by multiple computers, the calibration is possible without any problems.
Align is an integrated module of ProjectionTools. This module is used with already installed projections and determines shifts of the projections, which can arise after prolonged operation or maintenance. Align allows to re-align the projection system automatically, easily and quickly.
ColorMatch is an application of the ProjectionTools and optional purchasable. It is used for the color calibration of projectors. Supported are various projectors of projectiondesign, Barco, Zeiss, Sony and Digital Projection.
Creator is an integrated module of the ProjectionTools. It allows the measurement of projection systems by means of generated dot pattern. These patterns are captured and evaluated using cameras.
The cutter is a tool of the ProjectionTools and optionally available.
It allows cutting and distorting of images or films. It is required when content production companies can only provide movies as a master image sequence.
Mapper 2D and 3D are integrated modules of ProjectionTools. The Mapper program determines how images and films are played on a projection system.
Mapper 2D defines how two-dimensional content, for example, images, films, or presentations are placed (mapped) on the projection system.
With the Mapper 3D settings for virtual cameras are made. It is often used in simulations and VR environments.
NWarp is a software of the ProjectionTools and optionally available. The software allows warping and blending directly on graphics cards. Supported are NVIDIA Quadro and ATI FireGL cards.
OneButtonStart is an additional tool of the ProjectionTools and optionally available.
It is a front-end that automates the tasks for users of already installed projection system. For example, booting up and shutting down of the calibration PC, the recalibration of the system and many other aspects can be carried out conveniently at the touch of a button.
ProjectionTools is the umbrella term for all domeprojection.com® applications. They all involve functions that deal with projection systems and their measurement and calibration.
